Northwestern Medicine Faculty Office Center

Northwestern Medicine’s Faculty Office Center replaced scattered private physician offices with a single 20,000-square-foot shared workplace on the hospital’s Streeterville campus in Chicago, freeing 76,000 square feet for clinical use.  CannonDesign shaped it as a walk through the woods, with a backlit perforated ceiling that casts dappled light, a stone reception desk, oak partitions as well as a birch and moss forest behind frosted glass.  Faculty reserve private offices and share lounges, meeting rooms, meditation rooms, a fitness area as well as a café.  The project won a 2025 Fast Company Innovation by Design Award and a 2026 Healthcare Design Showcase Award of Merit.  We photographed it over two visits.
