My first day on the job as an architectural photography assistant was at the Herman Miller showroom in 1991, and I’ve worked in the Mart pretty much every year since. Each June the contract furniture industry comes to Chicago for NeoCon, and we usually photograph half a dozen showrooms in the days just before as well as just after the show. The weeks around NeoCon often book five to six months out. Over the years that has meant showrooms for Keilhauer, Bernhardt, Source International, Designtex, Enwork as well as Nienkämper, among many others. These rooms are mostly seen over a few busy days, so we photograph each one when the install is finished and the space is exactly as its designers intended.
