Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center

CannonDesign · Miami Beach, Florida

The Irma and Norman Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center sits on Biscayne Bay at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, bringing all of the hospital’s outpatient cancer care together in one 220,000 square foot building.  CannonDesign shaped it with undulating precast concrete bands that shade the interiors and mimic the movement of the water, then turned the lobby and healing garden toward the bay.  I made the shoot a road trip, and it rained most of the way down.  A little before our afternoon scout the skies opened up, and they stayed clear for the next three days as we chased the sun around the building, inside and out.  As I drove away at the end, the clouds rolled back in and the rain came down again.
