64 Bit P’Shop Coming to Appletown
The folks over at AppleInsider have a great article on the just announced Adobe Creative Suite 5. This brings what I have long been waiting for, a 64 bit Photoshop on the Mac platform! Windows users have had the advantage of a 64 bit app since CS4 was released in 2008 while us Mac users have been trudging along wishing we could take advantage of all our memory. 32 bit applications only allow themselves to use about 3GB of RAM for intensive tasks. This can cripple workflow when your layered Tifs hover above the 3GB size as mine sometimes do. 64 bit apps finally break through the bottle neck and let us throw piles of memory at the monster files one can produce with a 60mp digital back. This means working with big files is going to be less dependent on scratch disks and whaddaya know? It’s just in time for a new Mac Pro to come along that you can stuff full of RAM. Yep, New Mac Pros…. Apple? Apple?!!!

Boy Meets Glk
We just spent the day shooting interiors at Fletcher Jones‘ new Mercedes Benz dealership for Gensler. The building sits prominently off I-94 in Chicago and I’m quite excited to continue with the exteriors once the landscaping has grown in a bit.
The site has great visibility and thousands of drivers a day get a glimpse of the high end inventory that the dealership maintains. As we staged our gear near a five hundred thousand dollar SLR I reassured myself that, yes, my insurance was indeed up to date. While we were there, I became rather infatuated with the GLK350. I think I may just have to upgrade from the Element which was oddly enough purchased from Fletcher Jones Honda on the day we found out we were going to become parents.

Slug’s Eye View
The Arca Swiss M2 getting down on it Lorenzetti-style on a recent shoot with Jim Prendergast of Goettsch Partners where we were shooting alongside the talented Michelle Litvin. Project images to follow soon.

I’m so annoyed with Apple.
I need a new tower. Really. I’ve been retouching on my laptop for the last two years because my old tower is dreadfully slow. Apple is well over the product cycle on the Mac Pro and Intel has just released their 6 core Gulftown processors. Where are the new Macs? Instead we get an overgrown iPhone. I’m so ready to jump ship.

Perkins + Will in Fargo (continuing adventures in high speed photography)
Once we arrived safe and sound in Fargo, ND… well we had dinner and went to bed… but the very next day we got right to work shooting some interiors for Perkins + Will. Despite its reputation, Fargo in January really isn’t any worse than Chicago. We did make a quick getaway after finishing the shoot, though, to escape a coming winter storm.
