2009 Chicago AIA Awards
The Chicago chapter of the AIA held their annual awards event DesigNight, yesterday. I was pleased to be able to buy a table for the event in support of our local architecture and design community. It was so exciting to see all the work that had been done over the last year and I was very proud that four of the projects I’ve photographed were among the award winners.
Congratulations to OWP/P, David Woodhouse Architects, Goettsch Partners and Brininstool + Lynch for the recognition they’ve earned so well.

North Light
For weeks now I’ve been meaning to post these shots we did for Harding Partners back in July. We captured the last traces of north light on the front facade of this project that the firm finished renovations on earlier in the year. I’ve been aware of Harding’s work for some time, meeting the founder, Paul, when I assisted Jon Miller many years ago. It’s the first time we’ve worked together directly, though, and I have to thank Larry Kearns for the referral. Paul and I were both quite pleased with the results of our collaboration and I look forward to seeing what the firm does next. This one, by the way, just won three AIA awards… Nice!

Dune Grass
We were just up in Michigan shooting a couple houses on the shores of Lake Michigan for Wheeler Kearns. While setting up for a dusk view of the house, I turned around and looked down the bluff to see this wonderful view of the late afternoon sun filtering through the tall grasses that cascade down the bluff. This is one of the reasons I love my Phase One system. I can grab the 645 camera and pull the digital back off of the Arca, capture a quick shot and then return the back to the View Camera without disturbing the shot that’s in progress. As I finish the files from the house I’ll be compiling my review of the Arca Swiss M Line Two, and posting that shortly.

Winter in Atlanta
We just made this quick trip down to Atlanta for Gensler to cover an interiors project. Wake up at 4:00 am, fly at 6:10, touch down at 9:00. First shot was finished at 12:36 and the last at 8:58. Dinner, hotel, fly home.
